This is my 4th time building this particular version of the Small Stone. There were 3 versions of the pedal made. v1 and v2 were the closest in design, but v3 was very different to the ones before it. What we get is a very different sounding phaser and my second favorite of the three.
The build itself is simple and has a great layout. I did have some issue with the lfo latching up with some of the lm358s I had on hand so I ended up using njm2904s and have had no issues. I used a relay bypass from @szukalski because they are always fantastic.
How's it sound? Well, first the frequency response is my full frequency and broader than the first two versions. I would say it sounds more balanced. The shape and cycle of the lfo is different and more abrupt to my ear and less apparent at lower speeds but becomes more apparent above 11 o'clock. The color switch is the least drastic of all three versions and the most useable in the up position. What I really like about this one is that it's tonally somewhere near a phase45 in that it doesn't take over the signal as much as the v2. So I like it a lot in certain applications.
Anti-tarrif trashcan build. Raw enclosure with no film and vintage inspired graphics. Aluminum knobs because they are the best. Another fantastic build that is getting used on my board when I actually have time to play lately. Pt 2 coming soon.
