Any Metalheads Here?

I don’t really listen to metal, but I enjoy it a bit. I do love metal-ish songs by a lot of non-metal bands— King Crimson’s entire The Power To Believe album; Van Der Graaf Geberator’s ‘Killer’; Ween’s ‘The Grobe’, ‘It’s Gonna Be A Long Night’, ‘Mushroom Festival in Hell’, ‘Sketches of Winkle’ etc; ‘Islands’ by Oingo Boingo etc, pretty much everything by Black Sabbath, lots of proto-metal. Sludgy metal stuff is also just a lot of fun to play.

One here too! Although I do tend to have a very eclectic music taste I can’t seem to get the first love of metal out of my playlists.
My youth spent on Maiden and Metallica may have something to do with it. Always go back to those in a heartbeat.
Don’t think anyone now can get anywhere close to them. Although there are a couple of more modern bands that although not thrash or metal are certainly worth the listen.
Good to get those HM-2’s blasting…

My spotify album lists consist of Megadeth, early Metallica, Lamb of God, Death, Obituary, Bolt Thrower, Pantera, Entombed, Exodus, Gojira, Overkill, Sepultura, Slayer, Sleep, and Monolord. Mostly death and thrash with some prog/stoner sprinkled in there.

I got into metal in high school and soaked up Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, Dio, Motorhead and bands from that time.

One of my first concerts was Maiden and Accept back when I was 14 or 15 and I was so happy to being my 13 year old son to his first concert which was Maiden just a couple years ago. They really kick ass and still have it decades later. I'll always have a soft spot for it.

Heeeeereeeeeeee.

Not a huge fan of "scene" metal. Some groups just try too hard. A part of what I love about metal is the theater of the genre...there's a certain element of silliness to the idea of a bunch of dudes getting onstage, maybe wearing some kind of costume, headbanging, and singing or screaming or growling about anything from demons, to beating people up, to bitching about how the world is generally shit. Dave Hill has some good bits along these lines.

Speed and technique don't really matter to me either. I had a phase when I was younger...meh. I love me a good shreddy run, but I don't listen to music to be impressed. If that's what you're bringing to the table, you better have some solid songwriting chops to back it up.

Sooo...my kind of metal? Post-Morningrise Pre-Heritage Opeth, Meshugga, Dethklok, ISIS, Gojira (though their latest two albums haven't quite gotten to me as much).

More recently, Sleep Token has really captured my attention. Their full length albums have been bangers, but always kinda leave me wishing that they built up their songs a little more. Sometimes I feel like their tracks are cut a little too short...but they've got a lot of potential for the future, methinks...if nothing else, they're consistently surprising. Especially that fucking guitar solo in "telomeres". Like...what the fuck...where the hell did this thing come from?

Also, as a lesser mention, Dillinger Escape Plan. Gotta love what Greg Puciato brings to the table...like my generation's Mike Patton. I never really got into them until The Black Queen came out with their first album, and I can take or leave most of Dillinger's catalogue, but "Disassociation" was one hell of an exit.

Never much cared for Metallica. Megadeth. Pantera. They all get a big "meh" from me. Not my jam.

Yeah. I'm a metal fan. Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Accept, Sabbath, Megadeth, etc. Also, love the 70s rock bands (Zep, Pink Floyd, Kansas, Thin Lizzy, etc). Like a lot of the Prog bands (Porcupine Tree, Spock's Beard, Riverside, etc). Also, like bands like Opeth, Mastodon, etc. Also, like Grunge (Alice in Chains, Nirvana, STP, etc). Didn't care for the hair bands.

I put them in the same category as Cannibal Corpse. A couple songs in a row are good, but I can never get through an entire album in one sitting. Gotta take em in spurts.
I feel the same way sometimes. Though I gotta admit disassociation is a full album listen for me. Makes my brain hurt in a good way.

I dig metal. Mostly doom, but I like black and its offshoots (blackened death, war, atmospheric) along with the surface level thrash/death bands.

Can't get into prog metal, which is weird cause I really enjoy prog rock.
