Well, nobody needs a reason to like something. We like what we like, end of story. I was hoping Tolstokes might reply directly.


GenXslacker, I too have a long list of names, many graphic ideas that go with those names, but ZERO ZIP NADA graphics-kills.

How did you do the stripes? Are they etched or is that just a feltpen or ?

Stencil and rattle-can spray paint. Then a clear coat.

Regarding side jacks, one thing I don't see discussed much — though I'm sure I'm not the first to say do — is that the shorter signal paths to the switch could conceivably cut down on noise in noise-prone effects.

Given the choice, I'd probably opt for shielded cable and top jacks most of the time.

For "portrait mode" pedals by themselves (not lined up with others on a board), I think side jacks look a little more pleasing to the eye. Especially on 1590B's. Even so, I do top jacks in 1590B's given the choice. I've scrapped many an enclosure trying to shoehorn a project into 1590B with top jacks.

It's gotta be top jacks on landscape pedals.

@Feral Feline I like side jacks for a couple pedals on the floor with no pedalboard. Top jacks if you've got a board's worth.

That's one area I've always thought side-jacks beat top jacks... bypass/signal routing within the pedal.
A good example is modulation or anything with an LFO — bypassed signal never ever crosses the path of wobble-inducement.

Side-jacks in many cases also makes for more efficient use of space within the pedal itself, but then you lose the space-efficiency on the pedalboard.

I've got a big... foot — Well, either one — and stomping on stuff I need space between the stompers, so while top-jacks gets the pedals nice and close together... I might as well have side-jacks for the amount of space my foot requires to not stomp two pedals in one go...

Thanks for the stencil inspiration. I've used stencils to paint bikes, no idea why I never thought to use them on pedals. Gotta try that out, it looks good.
