Boss Enclosure to PedalPCB designed PCB So Far!

It almost makes $ sense to buy broken Boss pedals for cheap and repurpose the enclosure. Though I must say, repurposing something often takes quite a bit longer than starting from a blank. But someone should plug those side holes and move them on top (or use them for headphone/aux in jacks) and make a Wazabanga Boss :)

I have built tagboard Fender amps into Fender RI chassis. It's not cost effective necessarily but it's fun.
There was like a 10 year period (2005-2015ish) where you could pick up dead Blues Jrs for next to nothing. In all cases it was main PCB related. So you could essentially have a cabinet, chassis, speaker and serviceable iron for under $200. Slap in a modded JCM800 circuit on turret board, relabel the “reverb” knob to say presence and you have one nice little sleeper amp!

Is their more chance of cooking a Combo amp before cooking the same amp in a Head Cabinet with the valves upright?

When it comes to mass produced, budget price point amps using sub-par PCBs, absolutely. If done right however, it’s negligible—- look how many classic Fender combos we see from the 50s,60s and 70s still going strong

Many of the Blues series were plagued by poor design- underrated cathode resistors sitting directly on the board, tubes biased way too hot, etc… It was a frequent problem with Blues Jrs.

A buddy of mine had one of the bigger Blues amps, the one with 3 channels. The solder joints on the tube sockets were notorious for stress fractures on the daughter board, among other issues.
