I was browsing the PPCB webstore and quickly stumbled upon the Nutty Fuzz board. I LOVE expression control--I'm always thinking about what knob(s) would be awesome to sweep while playing--so seeing the clear labeling for the TRS EXP jack even from the thumbnail had me interested. And boy howdy is this a weird, wild circuit. The idea of having a fuzz circuit in blendable parallel with a gated oscillator is just genius. If anything, I'd love to see what other gain circuits could do in place of the fuzz! (@DGWVI ?)
Graphically, I'd wanted to do some stuff inspired by my favorite director David Cronenberg and I felt like The Fly was more than fitting for such a bizarre pedal. As usual, I bought powdercoated enclosures from LMS and used a b&w laser printer, Photopea and Maco label transparency paper for the decal, then painted the underside with paint pens and clearcoated the whole thing with Rustoleum gloss enamel. There was no way in hell I had the skill to capture the mottled color of Brundlefly in the film, so I went with a metallic red that came out a lot more crimson than I anticipated. There's some little paint errors ie the "L" on the BAL knob not having enough outer edge green, but so it goes.
The underlit telepod also came out less cleanly than desired, but oh well. I realized that unlike my Voivod pedal where I underlit the eyes, I'd need the clear plastic piece to be flush with the enclosure face. I didn't cut a big enough area in the enclosure or of plastic to span the entire graphic of the telepod.
More Cronenbergian-themed shit to come!
