Bunk LM311 chip

99% sure I ran into my first bunk chip from Tayda today. Wrapped up my Current Lover (Electric Mistress) build and all is well but got a wild siren in the back ground that only goes almost away when range is all the way down. I believe it’s bunk because there is no indention on the top of the chip where as the TI data sheet shows an indention. Either way going to have mouser send me a good one and see if the siren goes away. Very cool chorus sounds so far. But haven’t been able to dial in the flange sounds. All I get is like a slap back delay. So I know the 3007 is good. Anyway, just thought I’d share. Was pretty stoked to get some jet engine swoosh going on tonight. I guess it will have to wait.

Indeed! Sometimes, different manufacturers will have the dimple or the rounded slot. The three different LM311 chips I have are all NOS and work as they should. One has both the dimple and the rounded slot, but the other two have only the rounded slot. And the various datasheets I've looked up display that they ALL have the rounded slot at the very least. Tayda has been known to acquire factory "seconds" to save a buck. Looks like they're subject to being spoofed as well.
 
It is with sadness that I peer into my 95% complete electric mama flanger and see a non slotted LM311p…….this does not bode well
 
Funny, if it is a dud, that will make 2 chips for this particular build. Discovered a bad 3207 while auditioning chips for this build.
 
So I have tested my mama flanger and the lm311 from Tayda (non slotted) seems to be legit. No sirens to be heard anyways. Got some weirdness with my relay switching, but the chip in question isn’t part of that
 
I got a little bit of the siren treatment today, siren then silence. I’ve been trying to track down the switching issue, plugged the bugger in and BAM! Touched the colour trim and then nothing. Did the standard IT “power cycle” and it went away. Meh. Still getting some intermittent weird noises/distortion though
 
IDK why i didnt pay attention to this thread before but if you guys need LM311s i have some real deals that i can let go of i only need 1 right for the Electric Mama? If so i dont mind parting just send me a message and ill have em out on my postage.

EDIT: Just realized how old this thread is hope im not late!

Thanks man, but keeping the thing on consistently is my first priority. The siren noise was a new issue and so long as it doesn’t do it again, it’s obviously a non issue.
