Can 2 Circuits Share the Same Potentiometer?

This is more of a general question than anything else. Can I have 2 separate circuits that share a similar output/volume pot? In/out signals would be controlled by a dpdt switch. I think it could work with a dual gang pot, but could it work with just a regular one? I won't know until I alligator clip them and test, but if someone already knows the answer here that would save me some time. Thanks!

Is that the only way it would work? I was thinking of wiring the circuits to the same pot and have the dpdt control the input/output of either circuit.

Volume Pot Lug 1 to Ground, Lug 2 to Output Jack, Lug 3 to center lug of SPDT.

Connect one of your circuit outputs to the top lug of the SPDT, the other circuit output to the bottom lug of the SPDT.
