Monger Pedals
New member
Hi everyone,
This is my first post here so go easy on me.
I'm building a combo fuzz phaser pedal using the Causality 4 MKII design from frequencycentral : Link to original forum
My first iteration of this design worked wonderfully with the exception of some, what I liked to call, no no zones. Where the filter portion seemed to self oscillate into itself, which was most likely caused by myself being unaware of a faulty wire on the original pcb.
Here is the schematic of the design:
The issue I have since corrected but the issue was caused by connecting D5 to pin 2 of the speed knob. Like this:
The original design used a single tl084/tl074 but I opted to use 2 tl072s for the phase shift portion. This mainly was because when I started this project I didn't own any tl084s so this was my workaround. To my surprise this had no affect on the overall sound and the pedal worked great ( besides for the no no zones, which maybe added some character to it idk?).
Basically getting to the main question at hand, the new pcb that I have designed that does not have this connection in it anymore has a significant volume drop from the regular guitar signal. Basically the only way to hear the pedal is if I crank my guitar to 10, and run the fuzz side of the pcb at max volume. I know this is a gain staging issue somehow, but what is really odd is that the only difference between the original design and this one is removing the wire from speed and D5. R16 and R15 have not changed value in the most recent design. I would imagine if I increased the value of R16 this should increase the overall volume of the pedal, but I am mainly just curious on why the volume has been significantly cut due to a change that shouldn't involve the overall volume of the pedal to begin with?
Does anyone have any suggestions on what else I might have done wrong?
Thanks!
