What's that? A build report? From @giovanni of all people? What? It's been years, didn't he hang the soldering iron to the wall?

Ahem. Yes, long time no build, long time listener, first time (in a long while) caller... I finally emerge from my dark cave with a build report. And it only took me like 9 months to finish this one! It's been a busy (read stressful) year you guys.

Here's what happened: last night I finally finished my Cepheid build, using one of the first enclosures made by @steviejr92, which I must say looks really beautiful and is the best part of this build! Thank you man!

Populating the board went pretty smooth. The trouble began when I drilled the enclosure. The knob holes ended up a bit too far from the edge and the LED holes are too close to the 3PDT switch. This made for a very very tight fit into the enclosure, with the board basically snug between the mounting brackets and pretty much pushed against the 3PDT. I had to bend the pot leads to make it actually fit. And I had very small clearance to install the LED, which was a bit of a headache (I worry that the LED legs are shorting against the bezel - may have to get a plastic one). I wish I had been a bit more methodical about fitting the board in. I guess this is what happens when you lose the groove...

That said, I tested the pedal last night and this morning and it works as intended, but at some point last night the signal cut out (even when bypassed), which I think may be a sign of an intermittent short. It went away after I unplugged and plugged it back in a couple times. I tried to poke around the enclosure to find out what it was with no luck - I suspect this will come back to haunt me, oh well, hopefully I will find the cause if the problem comes back. Honestly, I was too tired last night to figure it out.

Anyways, this is a fantastic pedal. It sounds amazing, no audible noise (unlike some other BBD circuits) and pretty easy to calibrate the trimpot. I did test a TL072 in it but that was clicking like crazy, then I got a delivery of freshly hatched TL022 yesterday, which makes no noise at all (I need to replace the TL072 in my Dual Phase build as well). I had harvested the BBDs from a broken Boss chorus I got on Reverb (in hindsight I may overpaid for it given that I could not salvage it). The knobs are Tayda's Davies 1510 aluminum clones. They look nice but I may try a different color once I make the faceplate. Yeah, I haven't made that yet, not even created an Inkscape file for it. Give me 9 more months.

Looks sick! I’ve got one of those early Stevie enclosures in the pipeline. I think mine’s getting a fuzz though so I should have a bit more room to work with.

Any chance you’re shorting here?

That was my first thought but there seems to be enough clearance between the two wires. Also the short when away after I wiggled the input jack so that doesn’t fit…
