How difficult would be to add external modulation/ expression to this board?

While it's possible, this circuit does not lend itself to external modulation.
You can feed external modulation into the node marked LFO and either disconnect D1 or drive LFO from a low impedance source. you will have to set the range of the expression/modulation signal to match what would come from the SWEEP control if you want the same Range & Depth as the original circuit. Modulating the Rate would be much more difficult.
