SOLVED Cleaver no sound or fuzzy

Hi,


I've just built a Cleaver Kit and I have a problem with it:

• I cannot bias to 1/2 supply, about 9v. Trimpots allow from 17v to 14v
• There is no sound but a big buzz.

I read somewhere to try to turn the FET 180° --> I can bias to 9v at the end of trim but I have a very fuzzy/distorded sound.
Any idea ?

Yes

I'm not a Fan of Inline Transistor Sockets!!!!, Many Members here also have bad experiences with them!!!
Put a little Kink on the Transistor legs or tin the ends with some solder to make sure they have Good contact.
Try inserting them as drawn on the PCB with Flat side facing top of Board again???????
Can you show a picture of the Transistor with Writing visible?

2. This looks like the classic ebay Chinese ??????? Transistor !!!!
How do they have the same Batch Number BC27, these are straight leg!!!

I just checked my Cleaver and I have the JFETs oriented the same way as on the silkscreen.

The bent legs are made by me to accomodate the 2.54mm socket

This is a puzzling one...

Anything stuck under the sockets? That happened recently to another forum member, creating a hidden short.

The Picture above on Evilbay is for 2N5484 with same Batch BC27, yours is 2N5458 ????
They will put any number on a JFet & Sell !!!!

New transistors received from SmallBear --> Bias at mid trim, and no distortion
This was definitely crappy Evilbay transistor that gives me some headaches.
