can the pots be changed to give more sweep on the adjustment?

Did you work out a solution? I found the same issue in the gain pot being a linear pot. I am going to replace it with a Log pot to give it more sweep in the lower gain section.

replacing a linear pot with a log pot of the same value won't change the range of the sweep. it will give you more control over the adjustments in one-half of the rotation and less precise control in the other half.

changing the value of the pot may change the sweep, depending on the circuit.
