diode suffix

sorry. still quite the beginner. and have silly question.

running low, i just ordered more 1N5817. i accidentally ordered ones labeled "1N5817T" is the suffix usually just the manufacturer? or does it mean something else. I ordered from DIGI-KEY they had several 1N5817 with different suffixes. so now i'm even more confused.

Check the data sheet. Usually, a suffix will indicate something about operating conditions or packaging. Here, if you bought a diodes inc device, it seems to indicate that the diode is shipped in boxes of 5K in a 13” Tape & Reel.

Edit: it should be noted that sometimes a suffix will have relevant product information—so you should try to see what the suffix is communicating.
