EQD/DBA Time Shadows

I guess this won't be an easy one to clone (as I assume it's a digital pedal), but the Earthquaker Devices/Death By Audio collab pedal Time Shadows has sound really cool sounds! I'd love to see a pcb for this one.

I assume this is spin-based, so should be doable. Problem is getting hands on one to actually see what's going on inside. @PedalPCB if I were to shell out and send it to you, would you be open?

maybe it is more possible to do this new version?

oh hey! this one is only$200 instead of $800 or whatever the first edition was hahahaha

If anything it's harder because I'm guessing the preset functionality uses a separate chip from the FV-1.

(and it's still equally illegal to dump and copy the code in the original pedal, but writing an FV-1 program from scratch with similar functionality and sound is doable by someone smarter than me)

At least now it is more financially feasible for someone buy one and open it and see what’s going on inside.

I'm merely making a backup. 😂

This is all hypothetical and I'm not suggesting anyone should rip someone's fv-1 code.
I know it's absolutely immoral to copy fv-1 code. It's certainly illegal to profit from it and at minimum a darker shade of grey to distribute it freely. But, there's no terms of service or license to (most) pedals.
What about an instance where someone owns a pedal and ports it's code over to a diy build? I have a few fv-1 based effects that I use 1 preset on that I'd love to combine to a 3 present build. Or copies it to hear it outside of the original circuitry in order to develop a similar program for diy use? With fv-1 builds that have other processing occuring in the box, I'm hard pressed to see how one could mimic it without doing something similar.
I don't mean to cause a stir or derail this thread but where does the level of ownership stop?

Turns out the 4-knob version of the EQD-DBA Time Shadows is a bit more than just their vanilla FV-1 platform. The 4-knob version adds a PIC16F1776 controller to memorize six unique user-programmable presets - recalling the TIME, SPAN, FILTER, EQD/DBA toggle and expression insert assignments. I don't have a 3-knob version available, but I'm confident it is virtually the same as the 4-knob version, but without any programmable presets.

Should easy enough to pull the EEPROM and copy the algorithm(s). Tracing the rest of it and getting at the PIC code presents a greater challenge.
