Fender Dimension 4 universal sound expander

Came across this cool thing today. It wasn’t working at first but I have it temporarily rigged with a rubberband. It had a band that was too stretched and could not provide tension so until I can find an appropriate replacement this works. This has a spooky vibrato delay, chorusy sound. It has a can filled with oil that rolls around giving it its sound. It’s not mine. A friend is cleaning out another friends storage unit after he passed and this was in there. Also where I got the echoplex. I am having a hard time finding value for this particular style. Also where I could find parts? IMG_5282.jpeg

oil can delays end up being a lot like having an old international harvester pickup, you'll own two or three to have one that works (sorta). there's not any parts that aren't coming off a unit in worse shape than yours or are improvised.

Any idea what they are worth. I can’t find one on much of anything. I figured the oil was bad or something and you couldn’t ship it.

the echo verb units tend to bring between 500 -1500 depending on condition ... you get a proper belt for this unit (tel-ray super organ tone), verify everything else works as it should (no switch pops or pot scratching), and clean it up and you're probably in the 800-1200 range unless there's super rarity or collectability to this unit that I'm unaware of. if those numbers seem low, keep in mind it is in unrestored/un-serviced condition in a gear market that is pretty down right now. if those numbers seem high, understand there's some premium on it being Fender badged vs tel-ray badged.

That motor looks like an off-the-shelf shaded pole fan motor. Often used in refrigerators as condenser or evaporator fans. Not much torque, so be careful on how tightly the belt fits. Also: generally those things tend to use sleeve bearings. A drop of machine oil once in a blue moon on those will help keep it operating in good condition. If it's been in storage, I highly recommend giving each side a single drop. It doesn't take much.

You might be able to find a reasonably similar 2GT belt (often used on 3D printers and the like). That'll tend to hold up better than a rubber band.

Ty. The rubber band was more of a quick fix to see if it even worked. I just noticed the band that was in there wasn’t engaging. If I get if I will purchase the belt @ICTRock linked.and thanks for the oil tip

I am honestly a little leary since I don’t know anything about them and it seems like a bitch to get parts for if something happens to it. That being said if I can get a good enough deal on it i will roll the dice and see what happens. After taking the risk on my recent echo plex gamble I am ready to double down, lol.

fwiw I wouldn't get it because it's a mechanical device with no parts available outside of broken devices and improvisation. if I were the owner of it, I'd buy the belt and take the first 500-600 dollars offered regardless of what it might be worth in a fully serviced and restored condition

According to Grok . . . .
  • Working, Good Condition: $400–$600, potentially higher for pristine, serviced units.
  • Non-Working or As-Is: $200–$300.
  • High-End Collectible: Rare, fully restored units could approach $700 or more, depending on buyer interest.

It sounds cool but not that cool, lol. It’s similar to a chorus or vibrato but its not like you could take it anywhere to use it. It would have to be in a music room as a collectible or something. Seems like it would be potentially unreliable. They only made it a few years so there is s reason. They put it in a super showman in 1970 and it supposedly almost bankrupted the company. Cool peoce of history though. I have a amp tech friend who has the super showman but it doesn't work, lol.

Bing "grok Hitler"...
That was the racism link... No you.

Yeah. Grok is...ah...not generally a good source of information.

None of the chat bots are reliable. But Grok is like...boy howdy. Just don't ask it about the JQ. Cause it might start linking you to some of Nick Fuentes' content.
