It was the industry standard back in the '70s, but compared to the opamps we can get these days, the 741 is a "shitty little opamp." But when building pedals, "Sometimes you don't want fidelity."
It's the first I've noticed it. Mind you, I don't spend much time shopping for 741's .
My favorite surplus dealer just got some, but they want $1.29 ea. I was just curious about the going rate. Mouser wants $0.73 ea in quantities of 10. It amazes me that they are still in production. By comparison, TL071s in a DIP package sell for $0.49 ea in quantities of 10.
