Fuzz Face tone control

Hey guys. I recently built the SiliSmile PCB. Sounds great! But……….. it would be REALLY cool to add a tone control knob. Or maybe there’s a PCB that already has a tone control on it? Is this even possible or would I need another transistor maybe? I’ve tried a few different fuzz pedals, and the SiliSmile seems to be the fuzz I’m looking for, but would be really cool to control the tone with a separate POT. I thought the fuzz war, or Bellum MK2 might cover that, but doesn’t have the same warmth as the SiliSmile PCB. Hopefully this all makes sense. Thanks!

Do you want it to add or take away treble or work as a tilt style EQ?
If my understanding of a tilt EQ is correct, that’s what I’d be looking for. Basically a POT that on the 0 end of the POT, it would be more low end, and as you dial up the POT, you’ll get more high end. Hopefully that makes sense. I’ve only built a few pedals at this point, and am reading up as much as I can so I understand how the circuit works.

You will have a slight volume drop with that.

I would put it between the out of the pcb and your switch so it is bypassed.

I’d be interested to try this one before tacking on something at the end. You aren’t going to really get more of any frequencies without an active EQ, but you can get less! Kinda works out the same sometimes 😂

Looks like they’ve taken a few caps and a pot and put it around R4 on the silismile. Worth a try!

This looks very interesting and simple! Maybe I'll give that a go. I think I have everything on hand for that. Thanks for all the insight!

If you do add the Muffin Crumb TONE PCB, then follow that with a MUFFIN CRUMB AMPLIFIER stage to recover lost volume.

You could also add a cap and potentiometer in parallel to the input cap, or the output cap — or use a dual-gang pot and do both!
I've posted Joe Gore's simple tone-control on a BazzFuss before (and he certainly wasn't the one to come up with it, but it's a good example of it):

Nice! I kind of tweaked a few things from here, a few things from there, and came up with something I think will work. I’m sending it out to get the PCB made. If it works, I’ll post it here on this thread. Thanks for all the help from everyone here! Been a lot of help for sure!

That's an input bass, not tone/treble control

Yes, I know, a pseudo-tone control that will affect how the Fuzz Face circuit clips.

It's worth experimenting with it and the output cap as well. Dual-gang to minimise controls or separate gangs for more control.

FUN!
