Germanium Transistors for Fuzzrite

Amplified Parts also has a good selection of Ge transistors. Not necessarily the cheapest, but it's there.

I would recommend Japanese transistors. Fuzzrite really depends on the transistors due to it having a so low part count so not trying to be the snob here, but they really affect the sound. Built some with 2SA12, 2SB171 and so. Tried to build some with AC188s with 80-110 hfes but got decent sounding units, but not great. (Japanese trannies were scavenged from old radios so didnt got to measure hfes)

This is the best one from several I have built. Used a repurposed EHX Neo Clone enclosure and knobs I found in an old radio. No 22k resistor and a 22nf cap in Q1 to allow more bass into the circuit

OK, I stand corrected. I breadboarded a Ge Fuzzrite and wow! Just wow! Seems like quite a few different combinations of Ge trannies will work, however the tone varies a bit depending on the combo. Bias is stable enough. I learned a few things on this project.
