Got a new little toy.... GLAD I DID!

So, I didn't start my pedal frenzy until later in my guitar career... being such, I have essentially NO vintage pedals aside of MAYBE 1 or 2, and even then, I wouldn't truly say it was vintage, just not a fresh / couple years old pedal (my TS9 is of the older variety, I am pretty proud of it).... But I heard some demos of this pedal after seeing the JHS video about the Visual Super product, SK10 Ibanez pedal, which was a rebranded / reboxed Ibanez Fat Cat.
I am not a huge RAT fan, as the sound gets "fuzz" like quickly if you aren't careful, and I am just not a FUZZ dude, I've tried, just not my jam, but I have been able to tweak a few settings I like from a RAT here and there. The one I built from here was fantastic, but mostly because I did it, and I am pretty awesome..... 🙃

Anyway, I saw this come up for a decent price on Reverb the other day, made an offer, and to my surprise it was accepted! This is mostly to do with a couple things I am sure, it's pretty beat up, and the 9v adapter port doesn't work (something I need to ask ya'll about... I WILL fix it one way or another!), but the battery does....
Anyway, I can get WAY more sounds that are enjoyable to me out of this pedal than other rats, AND it's vintage! Go me! haha

Anyway, here she is.... i'd love to see a build for this circuit as is too, maybe one day!

Congrats!

I'm a fan of the Fat Cat and once had an opportunity to buy one, but was short on cash at the time — still regret not getting that.

If I recall correctly, the circuit-schematic is floating around and it is not all that different from a regular Rat — ie you could build a Fat Cat on a Rat PCB.

Another titbit: the Ibanez LM7 L.A. Metal was made on the Fat Cat board, so can be modded easily to Fat Cat specs.

You are pretty awesome...

While I have never really had a need for a Rat pedal I can appreciate it, and also appreciate the number of pedals it spawned. There's the Expandora of course, which I love (although don't get to use very often), and half of BJF's output like the Honey Bee, Honey Beest, Model G, etc.

I even made my own Rat-based pedal with lower gain and a bass control which I called the Quokka.

Does anyone know of other Rat derivatives?

I always thought I'd hate the Rat based on what I knew about it and heard in demos. Seemed like a cliche 80's Rock kind of sound.

One day I decided to build the Aion Helios for a friend, but just couldn't seem to pack it up and ship it to him. I've had some variant of a Rat on my board ever since. Right now it's the 1981 DRV. I didn't like it for the first couple of days but it grew on me.

First time I heard a Rat it was horrible, then later on I figured out the guy who brought it to my friend's band's rehearsal didn't know what the hell he was doing with it.

Favourite Rat setting is Turbo mode... love the LEDs!

+1 for the Turbo mode. You don't realize that you need that dynamic range until you're trying to play with other instruments.
