Harmonic Percolator (with some mods)

First of all, @PedalBuilder, many thanks for your inspirating write up of your exploration of this circuit!

I have built a handful Harmonic Percolator-alikes with different variations in the past, but never heard anything close to the low octave effect in the Latent Lemon Hurts pedal demo video at 0:28 - 0:37.

Anyway, I’ve breadboarded something that, while it’s not as obvious as in the video above, has much more of that sound than I expected to hear because I didn’t have the D310 diodes yet.

In the meantime I’ve used Schottky diodes for clipping, 1N5817. I measured their Vf to around 250 mV.

R5 = I’ve tried 2.2 MΩ and 2.710 MΩ, I had a clear preference for the latter.

Q1 is a GT313A with hFE at 52, Ube = 200 mV. Ice0 is at 8µA. It is the closest I’ve found so far in my stash.

Q2 is BC109B with hFE at 214. I tried one close to 300 also, but I’m not sure which one I prefer or if I even heard any difference.

The GT313A’s I have (also reported by others) have a lot of background noise / noise floor, I will try to find something else for Q1.
