SOLVED Hiss with dual drive engaged

I built a KoT clone from BYOC (The Royal Flush - although I call mine the King of Turtles ).

I'm wondering if this is just a common thing with overdrives. When each side is engaged in it's own, it's quiet, but when both are engaged, there's a noticeable hiss (it's louder in real life than on the video).

I changed some of the wires to the foot switches, but I don't think it made a difference:







So my question is whether I'm doing something wrong, or is this just the nature of the beast with dual overdrives.

Somewhat the nature of stacking drives
Short the input to ground with the lid/bottom plate on and see if it's still as loud.

Just tried that... Didn't make a difference.

Does it matter that I never installed the 9v battery connector? I wasn't going to use it, so I didn't solder it in.

The more gain stages, the more the self-noise of the ICs gets amplified. Many designs combat that with 47pF to 470pF negative feedback capacitors in the gain circuit.

Thanks for taking the time to answer. I guess it's just something to live with. I figured it might be, but also being new to this, I thought there might be something simple I was overlooking.
