This year I've been doing mainly outdoor projects - making a new workbench and storage setup in the garage, car projects, cutting up a drum kit. Today I needed to clean up out there so I could make room for phase 2 of the new storage setup, but I took one step outside and about faced right back in the house. I took refuge in the basement, far away from the oppressive heat.
This was my fourth pedal I tried to build today. The first needed a short bat on/on SPDT switch to complete, the second needed a C500k pot, the third needed a damn 9mm B500k pot instead of the B100k I ordered, and but this one actually came together! After this I greedily tried for another but it needs dumb pot values like C150k. I thought I had the others in stock but it's more difficult to stock up on pots than resistors and caps.
This was a standard top jack 1590b build. I used a footswitch daughterboard with LED mount and brightness control, and I used one ground wire for the two audio jacks. The silicone insulated wire I like to use makes it easy to strip the wire in the middle of its length. I'm trying out a new indicator light bezel. I looked all over for a washer to use as a trim ring but couldn't find one with a 9/16" inner diameter and 3/4" outer.
Gut shot first. I don't know why the daughterboard isn't square to the footswitch, but I tried making up for it with the trim pot
I'm trying out a full size nut for the power jack. The idea is there is more thread engagement vs the thin nuts they come with. The size is an M8 x 1.0 and it's a bitch to find them in the hardware store
My inspo for this was "something whitish like the original but also red because I like red"
Here's a bonus shot of some stuff patiently awaiting a tayda order. I want to complete these and build momentum before moving on to the rest of the stock pile
Given that this is one of the OG boutique pedal circuits I wanted to give it a thorough testing with both my stat and SG. I discovered that it's not so much a baseline overdrive pedal as one you would use as a boost to thicken your tone while taking a solo. It pairs nicely with other light overdrive pedals. It's really nice after a Tchula, but also sounds great after my Lovepedal Blackface Deluxe. I tried it after a TS with my Strat, but I have the TS set up to be a mid boost kinda thing as well and having both was somewhat redundant. It's also just about the only drive pedal I have that sounds good with a compressor. It sounded best to me with the vol and tone at noon and the gain from 12 to 2 o'clock.
