Hot Tweezers?

Anyone have any hot tweezers they love? I just ordered some Sequre HT140 hot tweezers from Amazon to test out (thanks free returns) but wanted to see what other people use for SMD removal. I had a pair off AliExpress reccomended to me but currently they’re only selling EU powered ones.

Thanks.

I use two soldering irons at once, it's a bit like using hot tweezers

This short video shows the benefits of this, linking the video doesn't work, but it can be seen on youtube:

This one too,

I'm sure there are cases where the tweezers are much better than two individual irons

I def hadn’t thought of that. That’s super clever!

I have a Pace ADS2000 with MT-200 tweezers. They're definitely a huge time saver, enough so that I got the tweezers their own station so I wouldn't have to swap them out.

With that said, there are still occasions where I have to chopstick two irons like @pettert because the tweezer tips can be a little too bulky to fit in tight spaces.

For example, you're going to find it pretty tough to get tweezers on R40 / R43 / C31 / C33 without removing those electrolytic capacitors first.

For years I just used a single iron to remove SMD components ... apply a bit of fresh solder to each end and then heat back and forth until the component slides off the pad. Have tweezers ready to grab it as soon as it's free.

Not as elegant as hot tweezers by any means, but it works, and sometimes is the only way. This is actually how I measured the caps in the photo above. That space was too cramped for two irons.

I just bought some 63/37 solder for this exact reason. I’ve had the hardest time doing removal with one iron and got pretty hyper focused on tweezers but I’ve read that having 63/37 solder can help the solder not cool down as quick and allow for easier manipulation. I do really like the two irons idea though!

Saw a video of the Pace tweezers, really good. That's a whole different ballpark than some cheap chinese product.

Re: 63/37; Some stuff gets pretty easy to remove when you flood them with leaded solder.

Anyway, Mr SolderFix's channel on youtube has a lot of desoldering tricks that work, but he might make them look a bit too easy ;)
