You folks ever recycle old boxes for new projects? Years ago took a mis-drilled 1590a and built an NPN Rangemaster. I never used it, didn't like the finish (or the bad attempts to cover wonky drilling--like the button glued to the front), so it stayed velcroed to my wall.
This week I realized I had room on my board for a simple bypass box and decided the time had come to rid myself of this monstrosity. Thankfully I've since learned about JB Weld and was able to fill and sand the holes in a somewhat convincing way.
Then it came time for a new paint job. I might have gone a bit overboard with the splatter, but if you look closely I did think ahead enough to stencil out the rocket ship shape.
A bit of soldering later and I have a bypass box (the Alpha 3PDT stomp feels much nicer than all the old blue switches I'm finally almost out of).
I learned some things too, as it was very humid this week and I may have done too many coats of clear (you can't tell from the photos, but the rocket ship is gloss and the rest is matte). It never really dried, but I'm impatient and this one was just for my board. I also fully expect the sides/corners to chip, as I've never had success with non-powder-coated boxes, but that's fine too for this purpose.
All that matters is now I can turn my fuzz, phaser and autowah on all at once, so that's a win.
