After a tone of Pedal PCB builds, I shift to a couple of Aion boards. I chose this one over the "Solenoid" (which is true to the original) because it replaces the "Bass Boost" DIP with an external Bass Control. This pedal (even the original) has LOADS of bottom end for an overdrive.. Having more control over that is handy. Sounds awesome. Like I said heavier overdrive, not quite full-on distortion, but very close... also retains good string clarity, as if you have a blend knob turned up allowing some cleans through, but you've maxed out a gain knob. Holds together pretty well at higher settings too.
My biggest complaint with Aion builds is the drill template. It bunches the knobs up high to make room for a battery (that I never include), so I should have adjusted them lower... it looks like there's not much room for the control labels on top, but too much space between the Volume/Gain knobs and their respective labels. I've NEVER had to play with the Pedal PCB templates. Just sayin'.
