Imma gonna stop using first class methinks.
Although this is probably the 10-year plan: send first class mail into a tailspin, get folks used to bumping up to priority, raise prices for priority, extend priority mail to like 7-10 days, raise prices some more, kill the union because reasons, nobody gets their mail, FedEx takes a larger market share and leaves all mail outside my garage out in the open where it is extremely likely to get stolen like they do all the time, laugh.

Not to get political(I’m not even American). But didn’t Trump heavily defund USPS before the election to deter mail in voting?

This is exactly what's happening. I never considered the postal service to be political but it has sadly become so, as per usual, for the benefit of the few and the detriment of most. Never considered my town to be political either but as a Portlander, it has been interesting to watch. We've been voting by mail for as long as I can remember and even we were concerned about Dejoy mucking things up. It'd be neat if we could get either the party of "good at bad" or the party of "bad at good" (you choose which is which) to do something about that but.......
I have a relative who's a retired postal worker and he has... words... many many words for Louis Dejoy.

Yeah...that's a touchy subject with folks.
Speaking as an individual that loves to talk about politics and current events and really dig into the weeds of the subject matter...I strongly suggest that we choose to refrain from discussing American politics if we're gonna keep this place as a lovely reprieve from the insanity of the world.
Because...well...lots of reasons. We've entered a phase where dehumanization of the opposition is quite commonplace. I work with a lot of folks that are 180⁰ in the opposite direction from myself...people I love and see the humanity in and am terrified of what would happen if their vision of the ideal world came to pass. It's complicated. It has strained friendships.
But...I've been able to salvage those relationships. Not by completely avoiding the subject matter, but by taking the time to understand their viewpoints and making mine clear as well. It isn't clean. It isn't the sort of thing I recommend doing online...you really need to be face to face with the person, otherwise they're not really a person: they're just an avatar and some text on the screen. Our normal social pressures of restraint and composure tend to be subverted.
These means of communication...forums, Facebook, twitter; they're great for our purposes here. Building pedals, having fun, learning about electronics. Politics are far more complicated than we could hope to successfully tackle without fissuring the atmosphere...
There's a reason I don't have much of a social media presence anymore, and why I like hanging out here. Cause nobody takes themselves too seriously.
Politics...well, can quite literally be the difference between life and death. Sometimes literally, sometimes it just feels like it. But...the impulse to play it off as though it doesn't mean much...well, that can lead to real interpersonal problems. Not to mention real world implications.
But yeah, USPS. Dejoy has a large investment with XPO, which is a USPS subcontractor. Under his stewardship XPO has increased the amount of work they do for USPS. He sold his stakes in UPS and amazon when he took the postmaster general job, but also bought options for Amazon at the same time though...meaning he can buy back the stock at a later date for a locked in price. I don't have to state here how much work the USPS does for Amazon.
He wasn't appointed via what we consider "normal" processes...and under his tenure first class mail has seen a slowdown. There has been a lot of internal and public consternation surrounding the changes he's implemented.
With those facts surrounding his tenure thusfar...and with his public persona being somewhat blustery and confrontational...it's no wonder that a lot of folks are skeptical of his motivations.

I agree on the politics avoidance but the usps shenanigans are screwing everyone. It doesn't feel like taking sides to point out that our shipping struggles are getting dick punched with one hand and shoulder shrugged by the other. Australians up in here gotta be frustrated. What was once costly and timely is.... yet another shrug of the shoulder. That shit's embarrassing.

As someone who has been watching the US political scene over the past five years from outside the US I think not discussing politics is a very good idea! It's toxic, and Australians in general can't be arsed taking politics so seriously.
The only comment I can make is that as Americans don't seem to look outside the USA very much - everyone else in the world thinks you're crazy!

Yeah, I am waiting on a few packages that shipped over a month ago. One somehow went to Hawaii, the other Japan. Wish I could have gone with them.

And I suppose it isn’t a bad thing to keep politics away, but to be honest I think we will have to get to a point where these discussions can and do happen online all the time and don’t devolve in total shit. People spend a lot of time online so we’re gonna have to figure it out.
We also need places like fartbook and YouTube to stop being echo chambers for people just to increase the amount of time they spend online.
There was a podcast a while back called Rabbit Hole. It’s a good listen about some of this stuff.
