I'm on a roll - this time a PedalPCB HAARP

I hadn't planned on finishing this one up till this weekend, but I was having kind of a shit day and I needed something to do to keep me occupied. Since I had the afternoon off work I figured I'd box this one up.

@SYLV9ST9R did the artwork on this one as well and I think he did a phenomenal job. I love paisley and I think that this came out killer. I also did an awesome on the decal as well, it might be my best one yet.

I put these knobs on temporarily since I have some others I bought for it that'll be here next week, but I kind of like it now. I'll have to compare when the new knobs come in.

Getting this thing *in* the box proved the hardest part of this build. I think it's the combo of pots, a toggle, and the 1p8t switch on the board which made it tougher than usual to finagle.

Anyways, it fired right up. I only had the chance to play it through my bass and it, uh.... does not play well with bass 🤣

That's fine, though, because I built this with my synths in mind. I'll plug it in to one of them this weekend and I'm sure it'll be a lot more fun.

Here's a couple of photos and an awful recording just for poops and laughs.

Looks great, I just ordered an xx that color. I too found it neat but not super useful on bass so I housed it with a little "bit crusher" and gave it to my rhodes playing friend. He makes some pretty good/bonkers sounds with it. Still a very satisfying build. Thumbs up.

How do you delete the outline around your text from the background design?? Does this just happen automatically if you use the outline tool?

I didn't make the design, that was @SYLV9ST9R

I'm not able to answer your question, which is why I've got to have others do it for me 🤣

In Illustrator, you'd do an OBJECT>PATH>OFFSET PATH around the vectorized text, and UNITE that path using the pathfinder tool.
Then, select that path and the background and use the pathfinder tool MINUS FRONT. (you can also use the TRIM function, but then you need to remove the path).

Thanks! I seem to be screwing it up though. When I use the pathfinder tool and say unite, it just creates a blocky outline without the text being visible. Which I assume is ok. I then tried the minus front tool but it deletes almost the entire underlying image for some reason. The trim feature works though. So I can kind of get the same result by having the original text duplicated or adding it back in after deleting the offset path.

It's trial and error at first. Especially with complex background, you may have to try it a way or another to have good results.
You might want to precisely select paths with the Direct Select Tool also to not affect the surrounding areas, etc.

With the MINUS FRONT, you need to be sure what you're removing is above the background.
The TRIM works well too, I use it a lot. Just play around with the functions and find a workflow that works for you, and google what you want to do if you hit a roadblock, I learned quite a few tricks this way.
