IRs who used them and what do you use?

After seeing the cab m posted by @Harry Klippton I thought I'd ask who else uses. IRs regularly and if so which ones? I had a good look but can't find any threads on this yet.

I've tried IRs from a lot of different companies over the last few years. Ownhammer, red wirez, celestion, ml sounds labs and York audio. I've been happiest with the York Audio IRs I've used, they seem to need less in the way of hi/low cuts, feel more natural and don't seem as hyped in the bass/treble as the others I've tried.

My favourite YA packs are
Deluxe Reverb 1x12
Vibrolux 2x10
Matchless 2x12
Bassman 4x10
Marshall Black back 4x12

I only started messing with IRs just a couple weeks ago, mostly with the stuff that's in torpedo wall of sound so I don't have much to add here yet. I really want to try making my own IRs though cuz ya know

I have tried quite a few as well and York Audio has been my favorites, too.

And when it comes to York the Matchless 2x12 is my favorite, though I also like the Vox 2x12 (Blues) and the 2x12 Creambacks cab.

Honestly even the $1 Mesa 2x12 "trial" pack is really good, better than a lot of more premium options IMO.

Beyond York I would say my next most-used has been David Hislop. His stuff is mostly targeted at the P&W crowd it seems but I think they're quite good all-rounders, too. From his I typically gravitate towards the Greenbacks. He runs promo codes fairly frequently, I think I got the pack of all his IRs for maybe $25.

The $1 trial pack is properly bargainous. I have the creamback 2x12 pack as well but just can't seem to gel with it. It just doesn't seem to work for me. I've not tried the alnico blue 2x12, I'm not really into voxes so skipped that one.

That's the only reason I became interested in them

I adored my amps and miss them deadly, however, you just can't use a 2x12 deville at high enough volume for it to work properly at 11pm with a 3 year old in bed. My hx stomp into studio monitors at the other end of the house however works just fine. If it gets a lot later then hx stomp into headphones works well too

I've been using a Line 6 . It has all of the above setups and pedalboards with all the classics, a looper, effects loop, 3 outs (amp, main, phones). The phones are a tad cumbersome to get situated, but once they are I forget they exist. Me looping a couple of chords and then jamming away with the dirt & delay...it'll completely wreck a morning....in a good way though.

I mainly use the IR's that come with my UAD Apollo Twin X. They're pretty darn good but they're not meant to be standalone IR's.

Since DIY pedals, I only ever use a clean amp model in my UAD anymore. It's just the clean channel of the Fuchs Overdrive Supreme model.
But there's about 35 different cab/mic combinations modeled that you can choose from. I'm generally running through a Friedman 2x12 with an SM57/Royer 121 combo. That's my default and keeps the baseline sound consistent as I'm testing different pedals.

If I'm recording something and after a particular sound I might go for a 4x12 or a 1x12 with different mic setups. On my last pedal demo I used a Friedman DS40 amp model on one of the tracks because I was specifically looking for a semi-dirty JTM45 kind of sound to push with the GOTA LPB-1 boost.

Like @SillyOctpuss my family situation just doesn't allow much for cranking amps at this stage of my life. So it's either learn to live with and love the digital realm or not play. And honestly, the technology has gotten so good that it's REALLY hard to tell the difference "hearing" the playback of a mix. I don't really care what the naysayers say, most of them wouldn't be able to tell the difference in a recorded track if it's an amp or a model.

It's not as satisfying as playing through hot tubes. But it is what it is......

I do that a lot too, I can lose hours playinf over loops in phones or over monitor speakers. Are you using a helix or a pod @fig?

I love my setup where I go from a tube amp/head to a Cab M. The load from the amp is sent to a Captor to handle the load, and the line out goes to some studio monitors. Playing late at night is a breeze.

I have settled on using the IRs inside the Cab M, they give a lot of flexibility with mic placement to get the sound which tickles my pickle.

Rather than that, I would say York Audio. Out of the box, they have been the most pleasing.

I've always wanted to have a go on the two notes stuff. Their wall of sound plugin looks great.

Holy crap I had like 15 minutes to try and set up my cab m a little while ago and I'm gonna need to watch some tutorials or something 🥴
Get the app onto a phone/tablet and connect via bluetooth (or via computer with USB). It's much easier to play with your settings that way.

Feel free to ping me if there's stuff you can't work out.

I make one setting as a template with the eq/reverb/preamp/poweramp setup as I like, and then change cabs and save as a new setting.
I really enjoy the Victory and Marshall 412's. The Gretsch is pretty nice for blues as well.

I'm having the same problem with remote as with wall of sound. It's really hard to tell what's "mine" and what's not, now further complicated by not being able to tell what's loaded on the cab m vs "available"

It's slightly complicated, you can choose to load from online (which includes ones you dont own but can test) or from the device itself. I always choose the device, least of all because it's faster.

You need to load the IRs onto the CAB M (which doesn't fit all the ones you have in your library) with the cabinet manager part:

Then, when you browse your cabs in the editor, you can filter by computer (what's on you PC), online, or Torpedo (your device). Change it to your device and life will be simpler.

I'm really not a fan of things like this as I find it complicates and fills up screens with unnecessary stuff which they're trying to sell me. "I've just spent $xxx dollars on your product people let me enjoy it for a bit before trying to get more cash out of me please"

It's the PodGo. My wife ogt it for me last Christmas. The wireless is kinda screwy but the cable works great.

Nice. I love the hx stomp and the podgo. The portability is just excellent. Are you using the stock cabs or IRs with your podgo @fig? There's a new helix update 3.2 due to hit soon which will allegedly overhaul the cab block and will (fingers crossed) drastically improve the stock cabs. These updates usually make their way to podgo about 6 months or so later.
