Klassy Kliche Mini

I've built a few Klones this past year. My first one was a custom one using a AionFX Refractor PCB. That one didn't work at first so I got a full AionFX Refractor kit so I could do an A/B comparison. Once I got both working, I ended up liking my custom one better.

That said, I decided to build a batch of them to sell using my little mods. Only two changes really. I switched out the 3n9 cap with a 6n8 to help curb off some of the brightness. I also opted to use a D9E diode instead of a 1N34A. The combination of these two mods gives it a sound that's a bit softer and just feels more lively to my ears.

Strangely enough, I compared my AionFX Refractor kit build with a Wampler Tumnus and I couldn't tell a difference between the two. Comparisons between my AionFX custom and this most recent build using a PedalPCB board revealed the same thing...no discernible difference in sound...which is exactly what I was hoping for. :)

Really pleased with how the design turned out. Centaur graphics are pretty much synonymous with many Klones so I definitely wanted to incorporate one in this one. I also wanted it to have a rather classy look and feel to it. The Marshall style gold topped knobs with the gold foot switch certainly adds a nice level of classiness for sure. Add to that the subtle centaur graphic with a timeless font face and...well...there it is!

Your last few build reports inspired me to buy some DC power connectors.
