Kliche / Scenario Preamp

I had a guy message me on reverb asking for something like the CTC Unobtanium. I sent him a few Dumble circuits and we settled on the Gladio single channel.

He asked for a Fat switch for the Klon, which changes the value of C7 to something like 150nF.

I haven't had the best luck with my primer coats lately. I've been using the same primer I've used for years and always gotten great adhesion in the past, but I'm going to experiment with etching primers before doing another batch or taking any more orders. Thankfully this one came out okay.

Red is for the left channel, and blue is for the right. I ordered a bunch of off color LEDs form Mouser and this light blue color is pretty cool.

Here's the gut shot

This is the first build I've done in a few months and I was a bit rusty but I picked it back up. It sounds great! I'm not into Dumble sounds but sounds good.

I was beyond pissed when the first pedal of this batch showed primer coat issues.

My normal primer I've been using for years is Rustoleum Bonding Primer, which says it provides "maximum adhesion on metal surfaces." but it doesn't specify aluminum, which I learned today is an important distinction as it's non-ferrous and therefore is different for some f reason. This primer always worked fine for me. Sometimes a coat would be a bit flaky in one spot or another, but for the most part it's been fine. When I clean the enclosures I scrub tf out of them with alcohol, using multiple paper towels until it comes up clean.

I think what happened is I scrubbed the pedals down with isopropyl alcohol about a week before priming them - normally I'll clean them the night before or the same day. Apparently aluminum develops an oxidation layer within moments of being exposed to the air, so it's recommended to coat them within 45 minutes of cleaning.

I purchased a can of etching primer at the store and also found a can of rustoleum "aluminum primer." These cans are impossible to understand, but the data sheet says this contains zinc phosphate, which is a less deadly alternative to zinc chromate, which is what people used to use to coat alu. I'm going to A/B these and see what happens. It's super important to me that the paint come out as durable as possible, and having these kinds of QC issues is infuriating, especially when I'm supposed to know what I'm doing at this point.

I think the customer will be happy with the pedal. It's not really my thing but I tried to make it nice and put some of my thing into it.
