This is my second iteration of Keefe and Scruffie's Countdown phaser. I built one last year and loved it, but it suddenly just stopped working for no reason I could fathom, nor troubleshoot obviously.
I took a long careful time building this, because of the high parts count and mindful of the history of its predecessor.
Based on the A/DA Final Phase (vintage 1979), it's a ten-stage phaser using two LFOs housed in a 1590XX with many sonic possibilities. I'm not over-fond of the insides, pretty messy with some splices to untangle knots and a funky star ground arrangement. But anyway it works...
Not the most intelligent layout on my part, placed the LEDs a hair too close to their respective switches. The right hand one switches in opamp distortion, effective in mild doses. That said, it's quite quirky-sounding and a successful build in the long run. It works...
Waiting for a stereo jack to rig up the expression pedal option in due course. Seems like I'm firmly in the vintage pedal zone...so the proposed renaming (Final Phase = dernier étage (roughly) = dernier cri = latest fashion) has its fair share of irony.
Thanks for reading as ever.
