Another MAE build I finished. It's supposedly based off the EFE Black Dust. Like the MAE description mentions it's got the silicon FF qualities but darker and more compression but still retains low end. And to my ears, that's spot on for this pedal.
I didn't have BC109 transistors as called out by the BOM so I just used BC108B's. I can't imagine there would be much of a difference between them. I also tried 2N2222A's and really didn't notice a difference either. Nice fuzz to add to my collection.
I actually wired the pot in backwards at first. I assumed like all PPCB pedals the pot peeks out the top of the PCB. But come to find out its wires in under the board. The pads are clearly marked I just was in auto pilot. I had already moved to hole for the pot up though so I had to do some modification to get it to fit.
Also after almost 50 builds I finally used a Hammond enclosure. And the quality of it was very good compared to the others I've been using. I can see why they may be a bit more $. Oh and my first time doing the hammertone paint myself.
Easy fun build. Nothing groundbreaking but a good time had by all (me).
