Wrapped up 2 fuzz builds today. The Muffinator and the Triad Fuzz.

The Muffinator was nice and easy. I went with Green Russian specs. I prefer linear pots for Muffs so I went with B100k. I tried out a few different Silicon and Germanium diodes but ultimately went back to the OG's 1N914 and 1N34A. The clipping options are really nice. A simple way to add some variation. Laid out super nice. Love it.

The Triad fuzz is another fun one. The Bias control is really cool and makes this circuit pretty awesome. I could not find legit BC548A for the life of me. I ordered some from eBay that turned out to be BC548C which have a bit higher hfe. Luckily it still sounds good. I also tried some other low gain 2N series transistors but the 548C sounded best of them. I'm impressed by this one. I had a lot of fun playing around with it.

Both have white waterslide graphics. I'm starting to find my groove with this method and it's starting to look pretty damn good. If you squint from a distance it can almost resemble UV print. I only wish I could take better pics.

The force is strong with these builds.

Both turned out fantastic!

I might need to try waterslides … have you tried film free too? I’m curious how they compare.

Thanks. I haven't tried the film free yet. I'm hesitant but I just need to go for it since it's now avaliable in my area.

the toggles would be ON/ON, correct? would ON/OFF/ON be a cool mod to allow for the option to remove the diodes from the circuit?

@mkstewartesq turned me on to film-free waterslides, and they are definitely the way to go if you are using laser printed waterslides. There are a couple of extra steps involved, but IMO they are easier to work with and deliver a much more professional result.

I’m a film free enjoyer, but never tried waterslides. Sounds like water slides would be a step back from film free then.

👍🙏

Personally I think the film-free waterslides are easier to work with. I've had a lot of problems with waterslides stretching and curling under around the edges. Might have just been a lack of experience with them, but once I tried the film-free, I won't go back to regular waterslides.

i love the triad fuzz, it's the best fuzz bias knob i've encountered to date.

i have a mean green machine and a triad fuzz already built to put in one enclosure as a knockoff durham crazy horse, i just don't really know what to do about knob positioning and whatnot.

glad there's another triad fan!
