Median Compressor question

Following @andrewsrea nice build report (link here) of a Median Compressor, I've checked the schematic and was left a bit confused by the amount of buffers this thing seems to employ (schematic here), most notably the two built with IC1.1 and IC1.2.

I can see the advantages of using a non inverting high Z input buffer (IC1.1), but why follow it with an inverting one?

The Blend circuit inverts phase so maybe the purpose of IC1.2 is to preserve input/output phase. (And IC1.1 because a high input impedance was desired)
