Mesmerizer Q6 section going to overdrive

How do I make the Mesmerizer bass section Not to Overdrive? When I set the Depth past 12noon it kinda sputters. I suspect Q6 biasing with my components are wrong. Bass section is also louder. How do I decrease the gain/volume on the Q6 section.

Sputtering decreases when I roll down my guitar volume but it also decreases the Highs.

you can try different transistors in q5 and q6 to see if you find any that sound better. even swapping in the same type of transistor you will find out some work better than others.

I already did try several JFETs. The smd version of 2n5457 works best but it still sputters.
