MIAB pedals

A friend bought ROOM #40 branded by Ly-Rock on Aliexpress. I looked inside in the hope that I would be able to trace the schematic. There is no chance without desoldering some of the components. Semiconductors smeared with something that makes visual identification impossible.
It looks like there is a 7660 charge pump. The Variac knob probably lowers the voltage to the transistors.
I managed to remove some of the goop from the smd transistor. Looks like MMBFJ201 (G2P).
Some pictures of the pcb.

I always thought the Texas Harmonics Hotmod 800 was a damn good sounding pedal. I don't know that they're in business anymore though. Lots of video demos of it though. I've got gutshot and I believe maybe a perfboard layout (sans actual connections) that I found at some point.

The volume changes when using the switches makes me wanna think there's different sets of diodes as last in line clipping devices, but hard to say. Guvnor derivative is a safe guess... Not a bad tone on the video, but nothing super-inspiring either.

It sounds quite decent in the video. I'm not familiar with all the Marshall imitations available on the market, so it's hard for me to pinpoint what this might be a clone of. Besides, you can't always rely on the knob names.

I have the custom version of this, which adds 7 more controls (!) onto the front. This is not just another MIAB pedal. Through a good platform amp, especially if you “tune it to the amp” you can get a crazy range of classic amp sounds out of it, including the ability to finesse the amount of output transformer hysteresis — and it plays very much like the amps also, which is almost unique to me. It’s one of the few pedals I own that I consider a work of art. (Yes-there are a lot of knobs. I totally agree.)
Yeah, this thing is crazy! I got the hot rodded custom second-hand; the amount of eq ine-tuning to fit your amp is astonishing. I contacted Origin if they had a new enclosure for me, because mine had quite a few scuffs on the side... And they do sell them! Opening it up to transplant the innards to their new home, and seeing what goes on inside made me realize Origin Effects are of a different level altogether when it comes to guitar pedals.
