As a bit of a mojo agnostic, I'm not entirely sure why I bought this. I was about to start throwing the everyday tayda bits on here but I paused and thought I might as well ask. What brands of resistors and caps would y'all use for something like this? I have the transistors and diode taken care of already and here I am squinting at @Harry Klippton build reports trying to see what brand those yellow electros are.

I think Sprague/Vishay TVA series 50V axial electrolytics should fit in c5/6/7. I've used them as filters for the low voltage bias supply in amps and remember them being decently priced. For the smaller caps if you want all the mojo you probably have to go with tropical fish, but the prices are stupid. They're just poly film caps, so the green chicklet caps at tayda/etc should be about the same. This seller has sort of cheap nos mullards for reasonable prices in the UK, but you have to contact for shipping, that could ruin the deal.

 
I was tempted to go tropical but yeah that'll be like 50 bucks on just film caps, lol. Seems like the mojoest mojo out there though. Don't want any fomo.

Oh nice! They have the values and it'll be more like ten bucks. I might actually buy those. Thanks!

Edit: they won't ship to Oregon but it'd actually only be like 12 dollars at small bear. Hmmmm.

Low voltage orange drops might fit and have some mojo

If the resistor footprints are the common 1/2W size, I like Vishay PR02 resistors for that. They're metal film and remind me of some old Piher types, although they're not quite as dark.

What circuit is that board and where'd you get it?

I searched Amplified Parts and didn't find it there; it has 1 too many transistors to be a Fuzz War type dealio... I've looked far and wide for that PCB, but it's like finding a needle in a haystack at an equestrian show — but you don't know which equestrian show ... 🤷🏽‍♂️
 
Hey Feral Feline, sorry but that's not something we sell at the moment, just the best pic I had on-hand for showing off the PR02s in use. That circuit is based on (but not exactly) the WEM Project V and is just something I put together for my own use. We might sell a similar board in the future, and we do have something currently in the works that I'm sure will appeal to you if you like the look of that one, but right now it's not available to purchase. Thanks for the reply. I look forward to the unveiling of whatever new products you may soon present.

I've been having a blast this past week revisiting all the MODKITS projects. I particularly like the Erratic Clutch and of course the Rock Bottom. A few years ago I worked up (on DIYLC) a mish-mash of those two — then I tried to pare down its parts-count for a PPCB contest, still had one part too many. 😸 I'll have to make that project a physical reality.

What's caught my attention sifting through the MODKITS projects this time around is the Suspended Chime — Chorus or Chorus & Delay. Instead of a DPDT, I'd use 4 SPDT switches and then have access to all 16 of the algorithms on the Accutronics BTSE-16FX Digital Sound Effector module.

Fun stuff.


Digging the new Nexus stuff, too, especially that Phase/Off — looks cool and best of all, top-jacks über-alles!
 
Always check the dimension of the resistors!
I had the musikding kit and unfortunately not all resistors are from the same manufacturer (series?) and therefore it is a tight fit.
The larger resistors do not touch the pcb.
