Anyone tried the gl5528 instead of the 5516 in the moonshot. I swear i had some but either i used em all or they found the parts blackhole.

Difference is 10-20k light resistance vs 5-10k.

Edit: sorry, compared it to the 5516, I’m trying it… just can only compare it to a demo when I’m done

You'll be fine. This circuit is pretty slutty, it'll get along with just about anything. The advantage of rolling your own is that you can adjust the distance and angle of the LED/LDR combo to balance the response, unlike a vactrol which is fixed.
 
Like Betty I've had good luck tweaking LDR orientations and gaps to dial in some tremolos.

Just make sure you solder them floating up off the board a bit so you can bend to adjust without having to desolder anything.
