Any suggestions/recommendations for an IC other than the LM308N, for the "Muroidea?" I was thinking about a TL071.

OP07 is a drop in replacement, if you use TL071 clip the 30pf cap out of the circuit.

How does the 30pf interact with the TL071 to make it obsolete in the circuit?

It’s a compensation cap for the low slew rate of the LM308, also effects the bandwidth. It’s internal in the TL071 so no need for it.

I think it would be fun to build a discrete 308 on a daughterboard like the evil mad scientist kits and build a rat around it.

The one I am currently building is a PedalPCB Muroidea, into a GodCity HM-2 EQ [Murdock] blender circuit, where both are paired with a GuitarPCB blender circuit. It will be fun to boost it for a rhythm guitar, and the blender circuit will make it perfect for a nasty bass tone too.

They’re definitely a good combo. I’m in the process of laying out a Life pedal-ish board with an HM-2 EQ that dials down to unity/no effect. Should be killer when it arrives. 3 little knobs for rat adjustment, two big knobs to dial the EQ and Octave blend with your foot!
