Muzzle classic THAT module orientation?, Jacks

Hi everyone!

Muzzle Classic issue. Bypass works through regular in and out jacks. No sound when engaged.

Using KEY ins and outs > pedals > regular ins and outs gives normal sound in bypass no sound when engaged

Only going through KEY jacks with nothing In regular in/out gives ground noise, no signal. (No surprise)

Bought the kit from Das Musikding. Took some time researching the forum before wiring everything up and kinda suspected that I had the wrong jacks. The BOM says ”SIDECHAIN (Key) - 1/4” Switching TRS” though, not that specific.

I researched some more to try to figure out what the switch actually was supposed to do but then I just went ahead and wired it up with the jacks delivered in the kit, TRS plastic stereo jacks with the hole marked ” T ” to tip, middle hole empty, third hole to ring. Doesn’t work.

It’s supposed to have switching tips, right? It's not that hard to swap jacks. Can I swap only the KEY IN?

I realize now that I’ve had this kit lying around a year or so, Klaus might have changed the jacks since then. He’s on holiday at the moment

AI helped me with orientation of the THAT chip. It has been known to guess…

Or am I missing something else?

Built 50+ pedals and the majority of them worked with no or minimal troubleshooting so I guess I never learned debugging and seldom look much at the schematics. I try hard to build it right the first time.

Any help is appreciated

You'll definitely want to look at the schematics for more involved circuits like this one, the Muzzle pcb tends to catch some people off guard with regards to how it works. I've built a few of these so I'd like to think I know what I'm talking about, so I am going to link my build report that explains what I did with a modified diagram showing what goes where. Post #5 should be it. You can ignore the mods in it to just build a stock Muzzle. For the side chain jacks it's tip pad to key in tip, and key in tip is jumped to the key thru tip. Switched tip pad goes to the key in switched tip. The middle pad is ground, you'll want to connect that to sleeve on the key in, and jump it to the key thru sleeve. You can ignore the ring and switched ring terminals on the jack, or you can remove like I do.

I would also give your transistors a wiggle to make sure they aren’t loose. While I always socket ic’s, transistors I solder straight to the board (except ge transistors)or I am auditioning different transistors. Those sockets don’t always get a good connection with transistor legs. If I am auditioning I usually solder them to the socket once it’s settled. Also a picture of the solder side would be ideal to help look for solder bridges, cold joints etc.
