I’ve had a couple of obvious failure points both on an amp job and my real job that had to do with horrible connections or trying to hide a connection with electrical tape.
IF YOU SEE ELECTRICAL TAPE ON A POWER CORD OR WIRE, IT’S FUCKED UP UNDERNEATH.
This was the culprit of a homeowner’s entire backyard lighting system not functioning. Exposed romex buried in the ground without a conduit. Someone obviously hit it with a shovel and tried to repair it then wrapped it up with half a roll of tape. Then it shorted and tripped the breaker every time it rained. It was hidden behind a bush, but c’mon man, this is ridiculous and can do some major damage to the house.
Hmm. What’s this?
Ok, I see why it’s shorting.
Holy fucking shit. wtf?! Burn the house down.
Always always always look under the tape. It’s usually hiding something.
