Now Playing... What are you Listening to Right Now?

I saw the Codefendants in Anaheim two weeks ago at Lost Evenings. I think they were way better live but I have had their album on repeat for the last two weeks.

One of the first concerts I ever saw was Joe Walsh live after a Kansas City Royals baseball game. I was 11 years old and listened to Korn and limp biz kit at the time. Joe Walsh put on one of the most entertaining live shows I have ever seen. Still ranks top 3 twenty eight years later. Anyways, I love this song and it hits deep these days. Last week, My brother and some of his coworkers got robbed while smoking outside of their bar here in Chicago. And this past Saturday one of the bartenders at the bar I work at got robbed leaving work. These guys were rolling AKs and shotguns….. it’s gettin dangerous out there folks. Stay safe everyone and be alert

A friend turned me on to this band called Night Verses and I've really been enjoying them. Very compositionally interesting music, I'd say it has a sort of post-rock/prog metal fusion vibe, very "Strawberry Girls"; but the two things that impress me most about them are 1) they use a lot of really strange effects/noisemakers that always manage to serve the music and 2) you'll be riding a chill wave of gentle harmonic-filled passages and suddenly headbanging to a groovy riff without even noticing there was a transition. And a titanic bass performance throughout which always helps ;)

Also, this Guitar World article piqued my interest; I went and checked out all the songs they showcased and suffice it to say I have at least 4 new bands that I'm a fan of. I knew about Angra from a Brazilian colleague who is a big power metal fan but after hearing that track I am stoked for their new album; Bleed From Within is amazing and I am really surprised I never stumbled upon them. But the biggest surprise for me was The Joy Formidable. I now own three of their albums just because of that article - I did not exepct to love them as much as it turns out I do.
