Now Playing... What are you Listening to Right Now?

I've seen orgcore come up in a few year end lists. My understanding is that it refers to bands that were hyped by punknews.org. I thought that meant =bands that play the fest (if that's still around?) but it might just mean hotwater music and equivalents. It definitely seems tongue-in-cheek.

Just trying to remember the last time I visited punknews.org and it's making me feel old.
I googled it. I can't remember where I read it but it said something along the lines of "orgcore is organic sounding" but then they listed off a bunch hotwatermusic and equivalents haha. Honestly, when is first saw orgcore pop up on my spotify year end thing I thought it said "Orccore" and I was cool with that. Orgcore is a stupid name. I hate it.

Punk rock has a problem with naming sub genres. Metal has death-, black-, speed-, thrash-. I don't like speed metal but the genre name makes me want to. Punk has, what? Crust? Oi? Hardcore? None of these are words that encourage listeners. Orgcore is on brand.

Sold my vinyl to my nephew when we had our spawn and didn't have space to properly store or put it out of reach. Regretted selling my CDs so have been building that part back at least. Love me some physical media.

However, a dear friend told me he tried Tidal and was absolutely blown away by the 24-bit lossless fidelity, hearing stuff on Dark Side he never knew was there. Who knows.

I still like the idea of personal possession/ownership of the music over put money down on. None of this subscription BS.

Pat Martino! Man, what an incredible life story. As I recall he had a stroke or something and lost his memory and had to learn how to play guitar all over again from scratch, after being an established jazz player.
That’s right. There is a documentary on YT about him. I did a masterclass with him in Philly a few years before he died. Such an enigmatic person.

"Joyous Lake" was a seminal record for me in my youth as I was beginning to appreciate jazz. Of course it was his "fusion" phase.
