Ordering from Canada

For what it's worth, I just got hit for an extra $15 at the door from Canada Post for a small package, which was even labelled as a gift. The breakdown was $5 tax, $10 handling fee. Not a huge amount, but still annoying when not expecting it.

See now that’s weird lol

That is strange, but very Canada Post. The couple of times I had to pony up more than just GST there seemed to be no discernible reason I got hit for those orders as opposed to others.

An aside... is everybody getting boxes from Robert now?

Used to be envelopes, extremely well-packed well-padded envelopes.
However, the last two or three orders I've received from PPCB were in boxes. Extremely well-packed boxes with items that could've been sent in those well-padded envelopes.

Yea my last one came in an envelope, this time in an envelope, in a box. No problem with the extra padding (I ordered a drill template too, so could be that warranted the box), but the 70$ UPS brokerage fee was not fun. As Robert mentioned, only a small part of the whole cost was actually taxes / duties, the rest is just UPS getting as much skin as they possibly can.

Last time I ordered from Tayda they had a DHL shipping option that explicitly said "Duty and tax included - you won't pay anything more" - I'm really banking on that still holding true, or else my price-per-pedal is going to end at a pretty uncomfortable spot.
