After building the Wolfgang 5150 original and high gain mod versions, I’m trying some other PCB Guitar Mania builds that I’m getting from Heavy Metal FX out of Madison WI. Darren runs a very professional shop with good communication, fast turnaround and is generous with the coupon codes.
The Humble OD is a circuit designed by Bajaman on the Freestompboxes forum. It’s two channel with controls for level and gain for each channel separately. Dirt sounds range from crunch to searing high gain. The Presence is a filter placed after OD section and is used to warm up the tone when needed. Nice feature to cut the spikiness and add some character! Nice drive tones with humbuckers and P90s, but also with single coils. Left stomp is channel select, right is bypass. Switches are for brightness, mid boost and frequencies.
It’s a large board that makes for hands friendly work, but I can’t help but think some real estate could have somehow been spared to fit into a smaller enclosure than a 1590XX. I’m nitpicking, though. I did get a little carried away with the length of the LED leads :/ thinking I’d need some travel distance given the size of the board but was mistaken.
As for the aesthetic, I used a weston grey SBP enclosure and added a Japanese symbol for humble. - again getting help from my wife’s Cricut machine. Kept the colors (ahem) humble with grey and black. Highly recommended tones!
