What is this, a BB with headroom? This circuit can dial up crunchy overdrive but it does not get classic distortion; it gets overdrive distortion. It really feels like I am taxing my tube amp when I start dialing up sound. If I dime the gain it does not get all the way to distortion, just significant overdrive. If I roll off the gain I get a transparent overdrive. Unity is at 11pm so the circuit has lots of headroom. The tone knob adds some sparkle and you can dial up tube screamer-like gain without making it sound like you are squashing your tone with a pedal. I would compare this circuit to the Greer Lightspeed.
Gen X suggested this circuit and he did not have to twist my arm, I am always ready to work on an overdrive. When I got the board I quickly decided to put it into a 1590b. I then decided on the Palestinian flag theme. It is not easy fit this circuit into a 1590b, you can see I had to use the Lumberg side jacks (enclosed are too big). The1590b has space limitations which caused me to use short electrolytic caps and I also had to socket the 1u film capacitor so I could bend it over the tone potentiometer solder lugs. You can also see the teepee where I used two resistors to get to 24k, a 22k + a 2k. I used a red illuminated footswitch so that I could keep the flag motif less cluttered. For the controls I used black washers and nuts and special knobs from Love My Swittches; they have two set crews and they look great IMO. This enclosure started as a powder coated enclosure but I stripped it after an aborted first try, then I primed it, painted it... and after applying a waterslide, I covered it with multiple coats of SprayMax 2k glamour. It looks glassy and it is nearly indestructible.
On the back of the enclosure I used an ink stamp to spell out "From the river to the sea". FYI: after two days the stamp ink was not dry so I baked the back cover for 10 minutes at 155 fahrenheit and that dried it. I then coated it with SprayMax 2k clear.
This was a fun project and I would say the circuit is worth building. I am not sure that it is unique among bb pedals but it is great overdrive circuit.
