Sandspur Fuzz 1590b edition/ Analogman Sunface BC108. A fun little build: as usual the harder part is trying to fit the works in a smaller enclosure. Easier that the 1590a antway... For the enclosure I chose a Tayda 1590B Metallic Golden water texture. Went together very quickly and worked straight away. I m sure some of you could have this thing built and boxed in a very short time. It is a fuzz pedal and I am not a person who uses or appreciates fuzz. I. did like this one… maybe it is the BC 108s? I socketed them for no particular reason – I see many others socketing transistors and diodes. I had to make sure to get the 108s low enough to fit in the approximately one inch deep enclosure. The 47u EC got seated low to fit the case as well. Fuzzes can sound somewhat flubby to my ears at times. The pedal screams and does the fuzz thing very well. There are so few components that problem solving is easy. I did have an issue with a board connection but solved it fast. For testing, I adjusted the trim pots until it sounded good and then gave it a ten minute test run. I decided right away it is one of the better sounding fuzz pedals because I could get usable sound out of it.

For the build I decided on gold as that reminds me of sand. I used a gold footswitch and a red 3mm diffused LED. I moved the power and in/out jacks to the sides approximately where MXR puts them. I used 22 gauge wire in a few spots like for the grounds and power out of the top and the in/out coming out of the breakout board. The Jacks are Lumberg because they seem to work for builds where I am using a smaller enclosure This build called for a 125b and I used a 1590b. I probably should have moved the Lumberg jacks lower toward the footswitch so they would not sit above the board. I just was trying to emulate the MXR jack locations. I did file the lip of the enclosure bottom to accommodate the jacks. You can see an image with me pointing to a portion of the board that connects to the B1k potentiometer… it lifted and disconnected and I am not sure how! I spotted it and jumped the board to fix this.

For the mural I used an X-Acto knife to cut out a small sun and then I taped off and sprayed red with Rust-Oleum 2x Ultra cover and then I sprayed clear over the mural Rust-Oleum 2x clear. There may be better paint alternatives but the dry time for Rust-Oleum is probably the shortest, so I like it. For the labels I used ½ white vinyl letter purchased at Amazon. Instead of pedal face I tried the labels on the knobs.

For those of you wondering what the BC 10 decal is… It is supposed to be 108 but I have to wait for the 8. I ordered it.
