Percolation Station transistor guidance requested

Hi All,
Im currently building a Percolation Station. The schematic calls for a 2N404A in Q1 and 2N3565 in Q2. I have these components ( I have a 2N404 non A). In one of the reviews, someone mentioned Albini mods and a BC108 transistor. The place I got the others had these so I grabbed a few, knowing absolutely nothing about the differences, or even which one they would replace (Q1 or Q2)...

Can anyone shed some light?

BC108 would be Q2, and the 404 would be Q1. I would recommend building the circuit with sockets so you can audition different transistors…
