Possible Voltage Inverter?

I've been looking into voltage buffers since I've seen them on a few circuits. Is something like this design feasible to invert voltage for negative voltage circuits? I don't like having to deal with a charge pump that could whine at high gain.

Do you mean for actual high gain pedals or for pedals when you're running your chain high gain?
If it's specifically for higher gain effects I realistically see three options to avoid using one;
1) Higher supply voltage.
2) Rail-to-Rail op-amps.
3) Bootstrapping op-amp outputs.

For things with clocks you can sometimes be a little cheeky and use the inbuilt oscillator to do some charge pumping for you for a little extra juice...

A voltage paradigm..
+9 volts potential would be an abundance of "holes" (or, a place where an electron could go) and few electrons.
"Ground" potential is where all holes are filled, and there are no excess electrons. No potential voltage
-9 volts potential is when all holes are filled, and there is an abundance of electrons.
