Occasionally my timing is perfect! My newly printed case and last parts arrived just in time for the Player Hater's Ball!
This is my first complete build inside the Phido Sound brand with a printed case (and my 3rd DIY build on a PCB). It's a ProCo Rat using the Muroidea Distortion PPCB board. Nothing fancy - the only thing deviating from the build guide is the LED resistor, to adapt to my old-school Not-As-Bright LEDs from the 90's (from Fry's in Palo Alto, if anyone wants a stroll down memory lane).
For build notes - THANKS to PPCB for another nice, easy to build PCB, and thanks for offering the foot switch breakout board. With adoption of JST style connectors, it's much easier to assemble the pedal in the case now.
I finished the build over a week ago, but I've had to use it for a bit to get a better feel. My first impression was negative, it seemed crackly and thin. With repeat use, I've come to appreciate the differences from my earlier Big Muff Pi build, and how to setup the guitar and Rat to get to sounds I like. I've tried stacking it with my overdrives (Klon Centaur DIY and Korg NuTube OD-S overdrive), as well as the Cherry Pi (Big Muff DIY build). (@BuddytheReow - I do heed good advice and have acquired a Tube Screamer PCB to build on your advice). (Further Parenthetical Digression: Strat -> Big Muffin Pi -> Klon Centaur -> Rat, + no-one else home = really loud filthy noise. I think I expelled a decade of dust from my ported Mackie monitors)
For the contest - I figure there is TONS to hate on here. In an effort to kickstart the hating:
1. Yeah - I was a pre-teen in the 70's, had a cruiser bike with a banana seat and love all metallic candy-coat finishes. Sue me.
2. I learned that some of my text layout was cramped
3. I need to work on better scaling for my graphics
4. The bottom lid free-verse needs an editor (read it, though. It's the user manual on the bottom of the case)
5. I spent money printing on multiple sides
6. I might have soldered a 4-pin cable header where 6-pins were really needed.
7. I decided to attach lots of extra pictures
So have at it everyone.
Because, on the other hand:
1. It worked the first time (3 in a row - but this is not my day job, so circuit building success always gets me excited.)
2. I have worked out the last bits of detail I need to build to the appearance standard I want. I am ready to gift and sell my repeat builds now.
3. It makes me happy.
There's more to come for the terrier tone pedal series (lots more) - once I've finished layout and design, I expect to batch the next three or four (or five, since I need a Tube Screamer housing now) pedals into a single UV print order. Keep an eye out for more from Phido Sound around the beginning of September.
